OK.........I've been convinced by my dear friend Sherri that I need to blog about my crazy evening on Thursday, October 30. It has taken me all week to really feel I could do such without my blood pressure rising or having a nervous break down thinking about it.....and I still don't even really know how to begin. It actually started on Wednesday, the 29th. I had volunteered to make dinner on Thursday for a new couple in our church who had just had their first baby. No big deal, we do this all the time. Well, Wednesday my charge nurse called me and asked if I could work on Thursday because we were short and they needed help. I don't usually work extra but I decided a little extra Christmas money wouldn't hurt so I agreed to it as long as i could get off in time to pick the kids up from school. (i usually don't get home until around 8pm)
Well, as I am cooking supper that night (Wednesday), I remember i had volunteered to make dinner for that family on Thursday night so I quickly decide that i will just make the lasagna i had planned on making and cook it and then after i picked up teh kids i would go deliver it and they could just warm it up. so while i am cooking our supper for that night i am having to throw together a lasagns at the same time...uuuggghhh.
Well this is where it gets interesting..............I leave work at 5.......pick kids up at 5:30......run home and pick up lasagna and salad and head out to deliver the meal. I had left the family a message that i would deliver the food at 6pm. I told my kids i would get them something to eat at mcdonalds when we got back to town. So, i pull out the directions that Adrian texted me and it said to head towards Harmony and to take a left on 1795 so that is what i did.. it then said to go 6 miles and take a right on 49. well, i came to a T in the road after 2 miles and thought, hhhhmmm.......this guy who gave her the directions must not know how to estimate miles, so i turn right on 49 and can i tell you i drove up and down this highway for about 20 minutes and couldn't find the house that i was looking for. the sun was so bright in my eyes that i literally had to almost stop several times because i couldn't see where i was going. Anyways, i called a friend who i knew had delivered food already and her husband tried to tell me how they got there but i had really bad reception so that didn't help much.
So i decided to go back to where i had turned and go the opposite direction........after all this guy didn't know 6 miles from 2 miles.......so maybe he didn't know right from left. so now it is like almost 6:30 and after driving a little ways, having turned around about 20 times since i started this journey and no luck and i am about at my wits end. Brayden is screaming and kyleigh is screaming at him to quit screaming. I call Adrian for some moral support (she had not delivered food yet so she really couldn't help on the directions) and she said to call our friend sherri because she had taken food out there the night before.........
so i call Sherri and at this point i am literally almost in tears. the sun is starting to go down and and here i am with 2 screaming hungry kids and kyleigh thinks we are lost........can't imagine why. Well, i tell sherri where i am and she tells me.......oh you are going the wrong way, turn and around while i pull up a map on the internet. so i turn around and go back the direction i originally came from..... to make an even longer story a little bit shorter ( i know i have already thoroughly confused anyone who has even read this far......but it gets even better so keep reading) i turned around another 3 times while she directed me by me telling her what the street signs said and where she knew the house was as she looked at the map online. Thank goodness for a genious friend who is intelligent enough to guide me by internet! So, she finally takes me back to the original T i was at.........ended up i was on the right roads but wrong part of the roads........so she finally guides me to the house, which at this point it is 6:45 and dark. There is absolutely no way i would have found it without her help.....thank you sherri!
So i deliver the food and the family was super sweet and i apologized for the cold lasagna that was 45 minutes late. So i get back in the car.....kyleigh is crying because it is dark and she wanted to get home while it was light outside....oh well....get over it, right? so i think i have my bearings straight at this point so i come out of their driveway and take a left thinking it will take me back to 154 to gilmer. welll, it didn't, it took to to some other road and when i turned right it said i was headed to rhonesboro......i don't even know where that is!!! so i turned around and found a different way home which should have been the way i had come in the first place.
So we make it back to gilmer at 7:30.......2 hours later.......i could have been in dallas visiting friends in that lenght of time......i was exhausted mentally and so frustrated. We were almost to the house when i realized i still haven't gotten the kids anything to eat so i spin the car around AGAIN....this makes like 25 times now,.....and head to mcdonalds.....well, about half way there i am on the phone with adrian venting and i hear "bbllluuhhh blllluuuhhh" coming from the back seat.....i turn around and look and brayden is back there puking.........my guess is he inherited his dad's car sickness and all my turning around got to him........and can i tell you......taking a car seat apart to wash it is NOT fun because putting it back together is heck. so i think....ok, do i turn around and go home....or go to tootsie's house and get the kids out and clean him up and then go to mcdonalds or what.....so i proceed to mcdonalds and wait in line while brayden just looks down at his throw up covered self and and says "dat". it was disgusting.....so we finally made it home and i told Ryan when he called that i seriously didnt think my nerves had ever been that shot. it was absolutely horrible!

Google Maps with satellite images rocks! Also it helped that the DeJongs have a big piece of land that was easy to find!
